WHAT IS A NEUROLOGICAL CONDITION?
Neurological conditions arise from pathology of nervous tissue such as brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves etc.
Stroke, Multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Gullian Barre syndrome, Neuropathy from various causes, ALS, Post polio syndrome, ataxia, are a few examples of such conditions.
WHAT IS A NEUROLOGICAL PHYSICAL THERAPIST?
A neurologic physical therapist is a physical therapist who specializes in the evaluation and treatment of individuals with movement problems due to disease or injury of the nervous system. (ANPT )
Neurologic physical therapy is based on the principles of neuroplasticity. We work on exercises and activities to retrain/relearn movements of daily life such as getting in and out of bed, getting in and out a car, standing, ability to use arms while standing, walking.
We also help people return to leisure activities of their choice.
What can I do to improve my level of activity?
The exercise series created by Dr. Chitale focuses on difficulties encountered due to weakness after a stroke, multiple sclerosis, lack of practice or deconditioning and progression of disease such as in Parkinson’s disease or many other neurodegenerative conditions. Please use discretion when practicing these exercises. Choose the form that is right for you. If you are experiencing difficulty with the exercises you wish to perform contact your physical therapist or book a one on one appointment with Dr. Chitale.
